The Barbados Pre-prep and Prep school seeks to provide a truly unique education experience in which intellectual, artistic, spiritual, and social development is at its heart. The school is designed around the ex-pat community needs of Barbados. In its first year this is a unique opportunity to be part of a small, dynamic, bespoke, and high-end education offering in the stunning location of Barbados. In its first year the school will cater to two classes of 6 to 10 children in Nursery and Reception.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Lead Practitioner to join a vibrant small team in our pursuit of excellence. The right candidate will enable this small school to meet the social, emotional, behavioural and educational needs of the children. The candidate will take the lead in the running of this school in Barbados. Responsibilities include:

– Planning of the curriculum and preparation of lessons for reception, nursery, or KS1 dependent on age of students being taught

– Support the school in helping pupils attain their targets

– Promote positive pupil behaviour by encouraging pupils, including evaluating their work

– Prepare and present displays of pupil’s work

– Use Tapestry to record children’s progress

– Complete learning journals

– Meet with pupils’ parents both formally and informally to provide updates on their development

– Complete formal reports

– Attending weekly meetings after school for planning and information purposes

– Carry out duties in line with the normal expectations of a school environment, including playground and lunch duties and occasional after school duties

– Carry out administrative tasks in order to support teaching and learning

– Undertake professional course to enhance classroom practice

The Lead Practitioner will be responsible for Health and Safety, Risk Assessments, and Safeguarding within the Nursery.

Personal Specification
The successful candidate will have:

• An NVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent

• Training or extensive experience of Montessori education and a strong desire within a collaborative, authentic, Montessori environment

• A good understanding of child development

• A good knowledge of the health and safety requirements in a school environment

• An excellent understanding of Safeguarding (training will be provided)

• A good knowledge of Information Technology and a willingness to learn

• Knowledge of Paediatric First Aid (training will be provided)

• Ability to follow instructions or work on own initiative as necessary

• Ability to teach and assess EYFS children

• Ability to communicate effectively with parents, careers and other professionals

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and lead as required

• The ability to establish positive relationships with pupils and empathise with their needs

• The capability to encourage pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner

• The ability to use language and other communication skills that young children can understand and relate to

• Experience working within EYFS and beyond with a good understanding of the expectations within its setting

Pre-appointment checks
Any offer to a successful candidate will be conditional upon:

• A verification of identity and qualifications

• A check at the Department for Education List 99 and the Protection of Children Act List, as appropriate

• A satisfactory DBS Enhanced Disclosure

• Verification of professional status, such as GTC registration, QTS status (where required), NPQH

• Verification of the successful completion of a statutory induction period (applies to those who obtained QTS after 7 May 1999)

• Where the successful candidate has worked or been resident overseas in the previous five years, such checks and confirmations as the School may require in accordance with statutory guidance

• Verification of medical fitness in accordance with the Department of Education Circular 4/99 “Physical and Mental Fitness to Teach of Teachers and Entrants to Initial Teacher Training”.

• Satisfactory completion of the probationary period
