Montessori School Director/Head of School in Dothan, Alabama, US
Dothan Montessori School is seeking a Director to lead our close-knit community of teachers, students, and their families. The Director oversees day-to-day operations and carries out our mission of providing a carefully prepared Montessori environment that nurtures children’s innate curiosity and love of learning. We are seeking someone who can ensure our program’s continued alignment with the Montessori philosophy. Classroom teaching experience or other background in early childhood development or education is preferred. The person in this role must be an excellent communicator and mediator who can support both teachers and families and foster a peaceful and engaged community. He or she will report to our Board of Directors and serve as a liaison between the board, teachers, and families. In addition, the Director leads fundraising initiatives and works closely with the board to manage the budget and school policies.
Dothan Montessori School is entering its 10th year of operation. We are a small school with one Early Primary (18 months – 3 yrs) and one Primary (3 – 6 yrs) class. Currently, our classes are half-day, with the potential to become full day. The Director position is currently 35 hrs per week. We are located in a beautifully restored historic home in downtown Dothan, Alabama which is undergoing a revitalization. Dothan Montessori School is trusted by families in the Wiregrass who seek an exceptional, holistic early childhood educational experience.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (preferred)

Experience in early childhood education
-
Alignment with the Montessori philosophy

Strong understanding of the Montessori method, and/or willingness to learn via written materials, webinars, and/or Montessori leadership training

Excellent organizational skills

Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)

Demonstrated business skills, including the ability to plan and implement a budget

Proven ability to foster transparent, collaborative relationships between teachers, families, and Board of Directors
Desired Qualifications:

Experience in a Montessori school setting

Prior experience as a school administrator or director

Montessori certification or continuing education in the Montessori method
